More inspiration and reference also target marget

For the first time ever I went and watched Wall-E finally. The reasons I decided to watch it after so long was 1. My friends keep going on about and 2. I was hoping to study the environments shown throughout it so that I could pick up some ideas for my projects. Having watched it, I'm quite surprised that it has taken me this long to see it and how close to our project it is. Wall-E is set in a dystopian future where humanity has pretty much destroyed the Earth through garbage disposal. Since humanity is extremely lazy and sick of cleaning up their mess, they leave an army of robots to clean up after them.

The environments are grey and mangy in color which suits the visuals of the project and characters as Wall-E is textured grey, damaged and continually repairs himself with parts from hid fellow robots. Another strong visual that I saw is when a sapling is discovered amongst all this useless garbage. I found this scene and also the themes of the movie (sustainability, recycling and renewable energy) to be good referencing and inspiration for our own project.

I found that the film was conveying the message that we should be aware of the pollution we create in the world. Thus message is well known but the way they did it in this movie, I believe that it will be picked up by children quite easily. Normally you wouldn't see a dystopian themed future in a kids movie however Wall-E seems to be able to capture that bleak theme and safely convey it in a story that is suited to children.

Texture Hub

I was browsing for some textures and although CG Textures is one of my best friends, however the 15 mb limit is highly annoying. By accident I found this new site Photogare.

CIU/ANM - Week 8 or 9

For this week I have been fairly busy. Now that the efficient animation is finally over, I was able to pour more time into my environment for ANM230 as well as develop my skills for the future CIU project. I have included below the materials I have viewed over the past week as well as some samples of what I've done.

The Alien Environment

Making a light in four easy steps with 3DS MAX

STEP 1:

Create a base for your light using splines. I started off with creating a rectangle base. I then created an egg spline as a separate object and resized the top of it.

STEP 2:

Attach each spline together including the egg together. Add a surface modifier as well as the turbo smooth and BOOM, you have the base of your light.

STEP 3:

Next you need to create the bars that stop idiots from touching the light. Using a spline, create a curved line and also a circle. Once done, using the loft tool attach the line to the circle so that it creates a bar.

STEP 4

Duplicate the bar to your fancy whilst resizing it to fit your created light.

These next clips are the previews for the animation project. I have gone back and changed them since these previews were rendered.

CIU/ANM - Environments in the industry

I've done some research into environments used in the game industry. I cam across a couple of websites that I personally found quite interesting. The website on immersion, I found really helpful and will be looking to use these techniques in my environments for current and future projects.

http://www.3dvia.com/blog/immersion-techniques-in-3d-environments/

The sky dome was a particular technique i was not aware of and will definitely be using it where necessary in the future.

============================================================================
Below I have included a list of links that I found useful. Each one of these links contain useful skills and techniques that will help improve my skills in creating environments.

http://isites.harvard.edu/fs/docs/icb.topic1411798.files/Week%206/Cantrell_Modeling%20the%20Environment_2012.pdf   - I've only just started reading this book however I am finding it incredibly informative and believe it will help me with my chosen specialization.

Below I have included some environments that inspire me and hopefully ones I will be creating in a couple of years time.

CIU Yggdrasil

During week 8 in CIU we where all made aware that our blog posts are meant to be academic which no one knew due to being told at the start of our course that our blogs were pretty much a VAPD. I apologize to anyone reading for I cannot write academically to save my own life which is weird because I can write creative incredibly well. So for now you'll have to put up with my VAPD styled blog.

It's now coming up to week 9 with the Yggdrasil project coming along smoothly. From what I can see our group is ahead of the others in terms of production as we seem to be the only ones with a finished story board at this point of time. At the moment each of members are working on their separate areas for instance Azam is working on the style of the mech, Alicia is polishing the story board and also looking into programs that will best suit our project, Amy is testing vfx stuff in Blender and I am currently looking at lighting in 3ds max and Unreal, particles and explosions in 3DS Max and also creating a reference library for my environments.

Below I have included pictures of our group laying the draft story board out so that we can go through and tailor it to what we want.
