For the first time ever I went and watched Wall-E finally. The reasons I decided to watch it after so long was 1. My friends keep going on about and 2. I was hoping to study the environments shown throughout it so that I could pick up some ideas for my projects. Having watched it, I'm quite surprised that it has taken me this long to see it and how close to our project it is. Wall-E is set in a dystopian future where humanity has pretty much destroyed the Earth through garbage disposal. Since humanity is extremely lazy and sick of cleaning up their mess, they leave an army of robots to clean up after them.
The environments are grey and mangy in color which suits the visuals of the project and characters as Wall-E is textured grey, damaged and continually repairs himself with parts from hid fellow robots. Another strong visual that I saw is when a sapling is discovered amongst all this useless garbage. I found this scene and also the themes of the movie (sustainability, recycling and renewable energy) to be good referencing and inspiration for our own project.
I found that the film was conveying the message that we should be aware of the pollution we create in the world. Thus message is well known but the way they did it in this movie, I believe that it will be picked up by children quite easily. Normally you wouldn't see a dystopian themed future in a kids movie however Wall-E seems to be able to capture that bleak theme and safely convey it in a story that is suited to children.
